Structured settlements

What exactly are structured settlements?

A structured settlement is typically a lawsuit settlement involving specific payments made over a period of time.  These deals also usually involve the purchase of an annuity contract through an insurance company.

There are also people that seek out structured settlement recipients and try to purchase the structured settlement for a lump sum of cash.  The profit margin is determined by what net present value calculation one uses to estimate the cash value.
