NASDAQ
What is the National
Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System?
Nasdaq is a computerized system of trading stocks developed by
the National Association of Securities Dealers. Unlike the
New York, Amex and other some other global exchanges which have
open pit trading floors, Nasdaq is a network of computer systems
which electronically provides the bid and ask price of listed
and over the counter stocks to brokers and dealers.
Nasdaq does not have market specialists which buy up unfilled
orders like the NYSE, but relies on market makers of each stock
to post their bid and ask price electronically.
Once a buyer and seller agree to a transaction, the deal is
completed electronically.
